The Transparency Policy is a my personal approach to handmade custom knife making. In return for doing everything in my power to make my knife making process transparent, I expect constructive criticism on my methods and pricing. Literally everything, from my workshop setup (which can be seen on my home page) and my material orders from various suppliers will be made available on request. I disclose exactly how much my workshop cost to set up, exactly how much my materials cost including shipping and tax, and exactly how much time it really took me to make your very own custom knife.
If I save money buying materials in bulk or heat treating in bulk, then I inform you and reduce the price of your knife by the commensurate amount. Every knife comes with a “final price breakdown” which does exactly what it sounds like. There are many good reasons for implementing this kind of policy, but the most important one is that it keeps me and my customers happy. If you find out that higher quality steel can be purchased at a lower price from a different supplier, then I will change suppliers and lower the cost of your knife. That way you get the knife you want at the price you want, and I maintain the same profit margin. Transparency is a win-win.
